Washington ML -109 - Pinnacle
Denver was a 10-6 playoff team last season. Washington went 5-11 last season. Denver has a huge fan base in Canton because of Elway's induction. Washington is installing new systems and the coaching staff and the players will be playing their first game together as they get to know one another. All of the above point to a significant edge to Denver in this game...so why were they installed as two point underdogs in this game? Well, because it is the preseason and you must look deeper...
I don't think Portis will be a big factor because he will probably only play one or two series but for what it's worth, you know he is one motivated running back tonight. The edge in this matchup is QB depth: Speaking of motivation, the QB job has been all but handed to Brunell so Ramsey has a point to make this preseason. Once you get past these two quality guys, you have Hasselback who got valuable experience last year and is capable of good things as well. On Denver's side you have Mike Quinn and Danny Kanell coming in for some relief pitching for their ace Jake Plummer. Washington has a deep, talented WR group as well to make plays with in the 2nd half. Denver lost their offensive line coach in the off-season and their depth at O-line is not as experienced as Washington's. Denver may grab an early lead in this one but the Skins have the depth on offense that it will take to take the game in the second half. That is how I see it and that is why I think the Skins are favored when at first glance it doesn't seem right.
